Social Narrative for MNprov Mixer Workshops

MNprov is offering MNprov Mixer workshops for neurodivergent adults ages 18 and older and family members.

The workshops are free. I may make a donation to MNprov if I choose to do so.

MNprov Mixer workshops will be on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.

The workshops will take place on these Wednesdays:

March 6, 13, 20, 27.

April 3, 10, 17, 24.

May 1, 8, 15, 22.

I do not need to go to all of the workshops. I can choose which workshops to attend.

I should register before I attend a workshop, and I can sign up for as many workshops as I’d like. I can fill out the registration form more than once if I need to.

MNprov Mixer workshops will be held at:

Highland Park Community Center

Village View room.

1978 Ford Pkwy, Saint Paul, MN 55116.

When I enter the recreation center, I will see a desk with a door leading to a hallway just past the desk. I will also see an elevator. I can take the elevator up to the Village View room, or I can go through the door and up the stairs on the left. When I get to the top of the stairs, I will see stairs leading to the Village View room on my left.

What should I expect at the MNprov Mixer?

At the MNprov Mixer I can expect to feel safe, have fun, and meet some new people while playing improvisation games.

There will be a limit of 12 participants per workshop.

I can participate in the improvisation games as much or as little as I would like. Michael Bruckmueller, the teaching artist, is really flexible and understands that sometimes participants might need to watch for a bit before joining, or may need to take a break. It’s fine if I want to watch for awhile, or take a break if I need one. Michael will have a bag of sensory tools from the Autism Society of Minnesota if I’d like to use a sensory tool.

The most important thing about improvisation games is the “YES, AND . . .” rule. All of the participants will say “YES” to my ideas, and I will say “YES” to the ideas offered by others. As we say “YES” to each other and add new ideas, we will create something brand new together.

I can expect to laugh a lot which is a great way to decrease stress!

I can also expect to feel belonging and build relationships as I practice accepting the ideas of other participants.

Other outcomes might be:

Increase self-confidence

Become comfortable taking reasonable risks & making mistakes

Improve communication and collaboration skills

Learn to listen and accept new ideas

Become more flexible and able to consider different perspectives

Increase resilience and ability to tolerate uncertainty

But, mostly, I can expect to HAVE FUN!

If I have any questions, I can send an email to info@mnprov.org
